Bus Éireann very much welcomes this extension to the free travel scheme which will be of huge benefit to many of our customers”, said Stephen Kent, CEO of Bus Éireann.

“Bus Éireann is committed to universal and inclusive accessibility on all our services, sustainably connecting people and communities and helping to make life better.

Last year we carried over 9.5m passengers through the Department of Social Protection’s free travel scheme across our services. We continue to make significant progress in  improving our accessibility infrastructure and investing in low-floor vehicles, thanks to funding from the NTA.

The Travel Assistance Scheme which began in Cork in 2022 has been hugely successful and has been extended to Limerick, Galway and Waterford. Since its inception our team of trained travel assistants have supported over 900 customers to plan and undertake their journey with confidence
